Resumen
This project deals with the analysis of thermal tolerance and sensitivity of the Doñana larval and postmetamorphic amphibian community. We will examine the following key parameters: 1) environmental pond temperatures (Thab); 2) critical thermal maximum (CTmax) and their plasticity under different acclimation temperatures, and 3) thermal performance curves (TPCs) and thermal performance optima (Topt) during the larval and postmetamorphic phase. This information will allow us to examine how close are environmental temperatures of frogs from Doñana to either, their warming upper thermal tolerances (warming tolerance, WT= CTmax – Thab) and their physiological optima (thermal safety margins, TSM= Topt – Thab), for each species
(Deutsch et al. 2008, Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. U. S. A., 105: 6668–6672), and forecast the specific risk of populational decline or even local extinction in the short‐term induced by the predicted scenarios of global warming.
