A Biodiversity Treasure

The scientific collections of the ICTS-Doñana are a valuable archive of biodiversity, preserving specimens that tell the story of life and open doors to the future. Founded in 1964 by Professor José Antonio Valverde, these collections have been enriched through contributions from naturalists and biologists, and continue to evolve with digitization and accessibility on platforms such as GBIF and DiSSCo.

Diversity and Quality

With more than 138,000 records of species from around the world available to the scientific community, our collections are among the most important in Europe, standing out for their taxonomic diversity and the quality of their associated data. The samples range from the Iberian Peninsula to Africa and Latin America, with specimens as emblematic as the imperial eagle, the Iberian lynx and the Iberian wolf.
