Resumen
To increase both the overall population size and the connectivity among Iberian Lynx nuclei to assure a functional self- sustainable and viable metapopulation, pushing the species on its way to reach its FCS (set at 750 mature females in 2040).
Specific objectives:
A) Get the species down-listed to IUCN “Vulnerable”.
B) To consolidate the four incipient nuclei, and create two new nuclei in areas that already meet the criteria defined in LIFE06NAT/E/000209 ́s Reintroduction Plan.
C) To minimize global loss of genetic diversity and prevent local inbreeding accumulation, thus decreasing Iberian Lynx probability of extinction.
D) To maintain acceptable values of non-natural annual mortality rate
E) To ensure prey availability in the stepping-stones and in the incipient and new nuclei, to ensure Iberian Lynx reproductive success in those areas.
F) To increase the involvement of the local stakeholders in the conservation of their natural heritage through both the generation of affective and economic bonds and the implementation of an effective reciprocal communication.
G) The revision of Spain and Portugal’ Iberian Lynx National Strategies and updating the “Action Plan for the conservation Iberian Lynx in Europe (Council of Europe Publishing, 2000)”.
H) To develop a cost-effective long-term monitoring program for the Iberian Lynx population to implement in the future under different possible scenarios.
Every action of the project will help to achieve the main goal; specific actions will help to achieve specific objectives.
Tareas de la EBD-CSIC dentro del Proyecto LIFE “LynxConnect”
Proponer directrices para la gestión integral de las poblaciones de lince ibérico atendiendo a criterios genéticos. Gestionar genéticamente las poblaciones silvestres y cautiva de lince ibérico. Realizar un seguimiento de los núcleos de población de lince ibérico creados durante los programas LIFE Iberlince, LIFE Lynxconnect y de las conexiones establecidas entre ellos, utilizando marcadores moleculares y muestreos no invasivos. Estimar la viabilidad demográfica y genética a largo plazo de la especie.
Concretamente la EBD-CSIC es responsable de la ejecución las siguientes acciones del proyecto:
A.6 - Directrices para la gestión integral de las poblaciones de lince ibérico atendiendo a criterios genéticos
A.7 - Laboratorio online para el seguimiento y la gestión genética de la especie
C.5 - Gestión genética de las poblaciones silvestres y cautiva de lince ibérico
D.2: Estimación de la viabilidad demográfica y genética a largo plazo de la especie
