Resumen
The project has been carried out on the basis of the studies on the theriocoenoses, performed in the spanish and italian mediterraneam areas.
The main purpose of this project is to estimate the genetic risk of the environmental pollution in the different investigated areas, using small mammals as bioindicators.
Three areas, one polluted and two control areas, located respectively, one polluted and two control areas, located respectively about at 50 km east and west from the polluted area, were chosen to assess the extent and the direction of the soil contamination. In particular the first one is located as close as possible to the industrial settlements, the second one (the eastern area) within Doñana National Park limits or its surroundings, the third area (the western area) near Ayamonte (Huelva district) .
The aim of the research is to determine how the wider protected area of Europe (Doñana National Park) is influenced by the impact of the gaseous effluents carried by the dominant winds (West-East).
Other objetives of this project are:
- the assessment of the effect of the heavy metal and radionuclidae contamination generated by the industries settled in the neighbourings of Doñana National Park;
- the evaluation of the effects of pesticide contamination;
- preliminary information on rodent borne diseases (leptospirosis, rickettsiosis, encephalomyocarditid, etc.) interesting from the epidemiologic point of view.
