Resumen
This research proposal is designed to analyze in the field the following activities of a number of black kite pairs:
Nest site choice behaviour shall studied through:
- The ocupation of nesting territories and the inspection behaviour during the first week after the arrival of the kites, will be observed.
- The courtship displays made by the partners in the nesting area with the analysis of the display sequences adopted by kites in the choice of the position of the nest during nest-building.
- Identification of possible alternative nest sites.
Activity of nest defence:
- The territorial defence will be studied in relation to the intraspecific aggression towards neighbours and vagrants, and the typology of the displays and their intensity.
- The agressive behaviour against other species including the analysis of the activity of the kites and their displays, typology of aggression and defence, aggressive behaviour of males and females will be studied.
- The typology of permenence and time of nest site and nest area attendance and the differences in the behaviour of the two sexes, will be studied as well.
Potential nest predators:
- The population of potential kite nest predators in the breeding area will be studied
